Four Sisters

On March 28, 2010, four Detroit poets took to the microphone at the Virgil Carr Center of the Michigan Arts League: Melba Joyce Boyd, Marilynn Rashid, Hilda Vest, and Detroit’s Poet Laureate, Naomi Long Madgett. The result (in addition to the delight of the audience) was a one-hour, eighteen-minute documentary chronicling the event, Four Sisters (x2,+1), all a part of our effort to tell the story of Naomi Long Madgett.

Here’s a trailer for the film and if you watch the credits at the end you’ll have some idea of all the poems that are included:

The film is sold at two levels: $25 (plus tax and mailing) for individuals and $195 for institutions. If you are a teacher and plan to show the film to your classes, please know that you or (more likely) your institution should buy the second.
